In 1994 Shear Katz moved into the historic Fitger’s Brewery Complex, overlooking magnificent Lake Superior, nestled between four-star lodging and a variety of restaurants and gift shops. There are 4000 square feet of salon space, including specialized treatment rooms and retail space. We offer a wide variety of treatments and day spa packages and use Aveda products and services. We are committed to meeting the needs of our clientele and creating a relaxing atmosphere designed to rejuvenate anyone’s spirits.
Douglas Peterson, the founder of Shear Katz, began his cosmetology career in 1979. In 1984, he opened Shear Katz Salon with three chairs. Within just merely one year, three chairs grew into six. After consulting various companies, and attending many educational seminars, Doug and his professional team made a commitment to body, mind, and spirit. Aveda was the only company that encompassed his philosophy and met his promise of excellence.
